Parque Florestal das Queimadas

Located in the municipality of Santana, on the north coast of the island of Madeira, Parque Florestal das Queimadas is a place of excellence for those looking to observe the biological richness of the Laurissilva forest. This space offers the opportunity to stroll, walk and relax in direct contact with Nature.

The diverse flora found in this forest park is one of its main attractions. Visitors can admire the beautiful specimens of tree species typical of the Laurissilva, including tilde, centenary heathers, pau-branco and mountain uveira. Laurissilva has been considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1999, and this park is one of the best ways to appreciate its natural beauty.

In addition to the flora, the avifauna is another attraction of this natural space. Endemic bird species, such as the firecracker and the long-necked pigeon, can be easily seen in this forest park. It is also possible to observe other birds, such as the manta, the lavender or the chaffinch.

 

The Parque Florestal das Queimadas also offers access to the Queimadas Shelter, which maintains the original features of the old houses in Santana, such as the thatched roof. In addition, there are several pedestrian routes that visitors can follow, such as the PR 9 - Levada do Caldeirão Verde or the footpath that reaches Pico das Pedras.
